This series, On Shooting Beauty, started from the place where I live. There’s a beach in my town where I sometimes go to walk in the mornings. There are often shotgun shells scattered in the early hours because people, many who have lived in this town for multiple generations, like to shoot skeet from the dunes.
There is often some friction between local families who have been doing this activity for decades -centuries even- and are very vocal about their right to do this and the city transplants -much newer to the area- who are generally annoyed by this activity.
I decided to see what my environment would look like through the barrel of a shotgun. I got my hands on a gun barrel that I could slice up and, with the help of a metalsmith friend, built a special tripod to shoot photographs of the natural beauty around me, looking through the barrel of this shotgun.
I’m trying to remain neutral. More of my own documentation of a skewed reality.
What can we say about this?
